Russian Children's Books Abroad

Russia is participating for the first time in the 2011 Bologna Children's Book Fair--the premier international event dedicated to children's publishing.  Here's the scoop from Golos Rossii:

Россия представит лучшую отечественную книжную графику, проведет круглые столы, различные мастер-классы для детей и взрослых. Будут представлены иллюстрации российских художников к детским книгам.

План российских мероприятий: 28 марта - презентация авторского альбома лауреата Гран-при на биеннале в Братиславе Николая Попова, 29 марта будет представлено уникальное издание "Детская иллюстрированная книга России 1881-1939", а 30 марта состоится компьютерная презентация электронной коллекции "Россия. ХХ век. Книги для детей.

Also...

 The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award will be announced tomorrow.  This is the BIG children's literature award--big in terms of money (approximately 500, 000 euros) and in prestige.  Previous winners (from 2003-2010) include Maurice Sendak, Christine Nöstlinger, Lygia Bojunga, Philip Pullman, Ryôji Arai, Katherine Paterson, Banco del Libro (a non-profit organization), Sonya Hartnett, Tamer Institute (a non-profit), and Kitty Crowther.

Two Russian artists are on the 175-person short list representing 62 countries: Illustrator Evgeny Antonenkov and writer Ekaterina Murashova.
